Because of the growth in the health care industry, more and more Nurses and Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) are needed. With more and more people going into long term care, and newer and better facilities being built, the need for CNAs is growing.
CNA Training is handled in several different ways. The curriculum, regardless of where or how you get your CNA Training, is approximately the same. Further, the testing done by each state is usually run with a proctored exam of so many questions needing to be answered correctly and a practical exam that is usually one or two skills that the nursing assistant has been trained to do correctly.
A CNA's job entails helping residents in a long term care facility or patients in a hospital with their activities of daily living. They will go through the facility and obtain blood pressures, pulses and temperatures on all the patients as required. They go through and aid people to the toilet and help those who need help with bathing and showering. They will move people from the bed to their wheelchair, making sure their hair and clothing has been properly cared for.
A CNA functions under the direction of a nurse or nursing supervisor. Therefore, they are responsible for reporting to the nurses any changes in the patients or any problems they have witnessed. It is up to the nursing assistant to see things like new bed sores while changing someone and putting them to bed, and making sure that people who are bed-ridden get turned every couple of hours as mandated by the facility.
Many times, CNA Training is offered by a long term care facility if you are hired for the job. They will hire you in and pay you to go through their own training, giving you a specific period of time to go and pass your state mandated test.
Every facility is different, so once you obtain your training and your license, remember that wherever you work will have their own sets of rules and protocols you will have to follow. However, once you settle in and start performing your job on a regular basis, you will only succeed in performing your duties better and better.
